North Shore Rotary was delighted to recently present a donation of $4,000 to the Forest Bridge Trust, representing 50% of the funds raised to date through our LegaTree project.
Trust Board Member Ana Christmas accepted the donation on behalf of the organisation and expressed sincere appreciation for Rotary’s ongoing support. The contribution will help Forest Bridge Trust continue its important work protecting and restoring native ecosystems across the Kaipara–Rodney region.
Ana also provided an update on the Trust’s growing conservation success. One recent milestone was the confirmed movement of a kiwi 14 kilometres from its original location, demonstrating that the Trust’s carefully planned wildlife corridors and extensive predator-control network are helping reconnect habitats and support the natural expansion of kiwi populations.
Today, more than 1,000 landowners are involved in the programme, with predator control extending across 54,000 hectares. Long-term monitoring shows increasing kiwi calls and breeding activity, clear signs that the region’s conservation efforts are making a significant difference.
The Trust is also leading major environmental initiatives, including the restoration of waterways flowing into the Kaipara Harbour, biodiversity projects at South Head, and innovative programmes such as kiwi avoidance training for dogs. Through its involvement in the Tāmaki Taiao Alliance, Forest Bridge Trust is working alongside other conservation groups, funders and communities to restore ecosystems on an even greater scale.
The LegaTree project was established to support both environmental restoration and conservation outcomes. Seeing the funds raised through tree sponsorship contributing directly to the protection of New Zealand’s native wildlife makes this partnership particularly rewarding. We thank everyone who has supported LegaTree and helped make this donation possible.
