Last Saturday, 40 enthusiastic members, friends, and family gathered at Adshead Farm on the Kaipara Coast, within the Forest Bridge, for a truly special day. This dedicated group planted an incredible 650 kauri seedlings, bringing to life a long-held vision. The project was the culmination of a dream by past Rotarian Bill Grieves, who envisioned creating a thriving kauri forest. Fittingly, Bill’s children joined the planting to help fulfil their father’s legacy.

Despite an initially unpromising weather forecast, the skies cleared that morning, and the sun shone brightly on our efforts. Kevin and Jill Adshead prepared the site and used an auger to pre-dig most of the holes, making the planting more efficient. We were honoured to have Jerry Norman lead a karakia to bless the trees.

A portion of the kauri seedlings will be repotted for use as replacements if there are any losses over the summer, and we plan to return to the site before summer to mulch around the trees.
