North Shore Rotary was proud to sponsor six outstanding Year 13 students to attend the 2026 Rotary Science & Technology Forum — a two-week residential programme that brings together high-achieving students from across New Zealand to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Our sponsored students were:
Rui-Han & Leilani – Rangitoto College
Madeline & Keira– Carmel College
Hamish & Isaac – Westlake Boys High School
At our latest meeting, we were joined by the students who spoke about their experience.
They participated in academic modules ranging from robotics and biomedical science to quantum physics and environmental studies, along with technical visits to leading organisations including Rocket Lab, Buckley Systems and the University of Auckland Medical School. The Innovation Design Challenge required them to collaborate in large teams to solve real-world problems, while a full schedule of social and recreational activities built confidence, teamwork and lifelong friendships.
In their reflections, our students spoke about strengthened career aspirations in medicine, biomedical research, environmental science and applied physics. Many highlighted how the experience broadened their thinking, increased their independence, and deepened their understanding of the many pathways available within STEM.
Importantly, several acknowledged that Rotary’s financial support made their attendance possible. With more than 270 applications nationwide and only 168 places available, the Forum remains one of Rotary’s most impactful youth programmes.
By sponsoring these six young people, North Shore Rotary continues its strong investment in future leaders and innovators.
