Our members recently enjoyed an inspiring visit to the headquarters of Woven Earth, a remarkable charity supporting families escaping family violence, homelessness, and severe hardship.
Founded in 2019, Woven Earth works with agencies such as VisionWest and the New Zealand Police to fully furnish homes for families rebuilding their lives. The organisation now completes four to five homes each week across Auckland, recently celebrating the milestone of its 1,037th home.
During the visit, members learned about the enormous community effort behind Woven Earth’s success.
With only a small staff team, five contracted drivers, and 28 dedicated volunteers, the charity relies heavily on donations, sponsorships, and partnerships with businesses and supporters throughout the community. Visitors were deeply moved by stories of families finally feeling safe, children having friends over for the first time, and parents gaining the stability and confidence to begin studying or rebuilding their futures. Despite rapid growth and increasing demand, founder Sarah remains committed to ensuring every family receives not just furniture, but a true sense of dignity, comfort, and hope. Rotary members were inspired by the passion, resilience, and compassion shown by the Woven Earth team and appreciated the opportunity to see firsthand the life-changing difference the charity is making across Auckland.
After the visit, we enjoyed a good meal at a local pub.
